Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 24, 2024, in Elliott Cemetery for Betty Jo Clifton, 91, of Grenada, who was welcomed into the arms of her Saviour on Thursday, March 21. Bro Cecil Fayard, Bro. Larry Brinker and Bro. Michael Payton officiated. Family and friends gathered at the cemetery 30 minutes prior to the service.
Betty Jo was born on Oct. 13, 1932, the daughter of the late Annie Mae and the late William Oscar Williams. She lived out the true picture of a Proverbs 31 woman, as she was the pillar of God for her family and all who knew her. She was a faithful member of Elliott Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for 62 years until her health declined.
In addition to her parents, her husband, James A. Clifton, and one daughter, Anita Lynn Clifton, preceded Betty Jo in death.
Survivors include, one daughter, Jeanne Carol Clifton Martin; sons, David Clifton (Diane), Robert Clifton, Billy Clifton and Shaun Clifton; three grandsons, Josh Martin (Cherie), Chad Martin (Natasha) and Jared Martin (Jennifer) and four great grandchildren, Kegan, Jace, A.J. and Asa.
Pallbearers were Mike Woods, Lee Fields, Richard Hood, Josh Martin, Chad Martin and Jared Martin.
Her family extends a special thank you to Mary Jo’s caregivers while she was still at home and also to the entire staff at Tallahatchie General Extended Care where she was a resident these last two years.
Acts 13:36 “… and when David had completed all that God had for him to do in his generation, he laid down and went to sleep.”
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Elliott Baptist Church.
