Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 23, 2023, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Ms. Betty Jean Byars, 80, of Grenada, who died on Saturday, Oct. 21, in Jackson. Burial will follow in Oddfellows Cemetery. The Rev. J. Barry Worrell will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time on Monday, Oct. 23, at McKibben and Guinn.
Betty was born on Oct. 2, 1943, in Bruce, the daughter of the late Otto and the late Leverne Hollis Richardson. She worked at Pennaco Hosiery for 16 years in the boarding department. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Betty loved listening to the preaching of the Rev. Jimmy Swaggart and the Rev. David Jeremiah. She also enjoyed watching “Tom & Jerry,” cooking shows and “Perry Mason.” We are all going to miss our personal weather and news reporter.
In addition to her parents, her partner, Eli Williams; two sisters, Fifa June Richardson and Hazel Burden, and her brothers, Carl Ray Richardson and Larry Wayne Richardson, preceded Betty in death.
Survivors include, her daughter, Rene Cook of Grenada; three sons, Bobby Kendall of Fulton, Frank Byars of Canton and Jason Byars (Lacy) of Grenada; one sister, Ann Harrelson (Derrick) of Grenada; four grandchildren, Daulton Byars, Leslie Byars, Johnathan Cook and Tyler Cook; five great grandchildren, Leium Byars, Harper Byars, Lily Byars, Addison Byars and Bowen Byars; nieces, Lana Richardson, Beverly Sanders Whitt (Barry), Misty Frazier (William) and Stephanie Holliday (Ernie) and a host of great nieces and nephews.
