The City of Grenada and Grenada County took a glancing blow from a winter storm last Thursday night and Friday morning. Winds of 20-30 MPH with gusts to 40 MPH brought trees down and caused scattered power outages throughout the county.
District 1 Supervisor Michael Lott said high winds brought down trees on Carrollton and Jefferson Roads. Power outages were reported south of Holcomb and along Sweethome Road.
Ward 4 Councilman Michael Smith reported trees blown down throughout his ward. Members of the Grenada Street Department were able to clear them from the roadway last Thursday night.
According to Trebia Rodgers, Emergency Operations Center Director, a total of nine trees were reported down in the city, along with three in the county. There were three wrecks reported and 300 total power outages were reported across the city and the county.
The cold front brought a dramatic drop in temperatures into the single digits in most locations. Wind chills dropped below zero in a matter of hours last Friday morning. Temperatures climbed above the freezing mark on Christmas Day and are expected to be in the upper 60s late this week.
