Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 6, 2024, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Mr. William Vernon “Billy” Meredith Sr., 82, of Grenada, who died on Tuesday, June 4, in Grenada. Burial followed in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Guy Hughes and the Rev. Tim McCaffrey officiated. The family received friends from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service on Thursday, June 6, at McKibben and Guinn.
Billy was born on Aug. 14, 1941, in Grenada, the son of the late Robert Lee Sr. and the late Effie Hendricks Meredith. Billy, a man of unwavering dedication, retired after a 43-year long career as a supervisor at Heatcraft. He was not only an active member of Friendship Baptist Church, but also a founding member of the Geeslin Corner Volunteer Fire Department, demonstrating his commitment to the well-being of his community. Billy’s big heart led him to help others using his handyman and auto repair skills, a testament to his selflessness. In his spare time, he found solace in crappie fishing.
In addition to his parents, his wife, Barbara Burt Meredith, preceded Billy in death.
Survivors include, his daughter, Lee Ann Burger (Chris) of Oakland, Tenn.; sons, William V. “Bill” Meredith Jr. of Indiana and Jason Burt Meredith (Robyn) of Birmingham, Ala.; brother, Robert Meredith of Grenada; six grandchildren, Emily Meredith, Amaya Crichlow, Morgan Meredith, Corbin Meredith, Caleb Burger and Brayden Burger and one great grandchild, Luke Meredith.
Chris Burger, Caleb Burger, Brayden Burger, Charles “PeeWee” Jones, Roland Shapley and Terry West honored Billy by serving as pallbearers and carried him to rest in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Charlie Jones, Purvis Lane, Buzzy Revell, Matt Upchurch and Bobby White served as honorary pallbearers.
