An arrest has been made in connection with a shooting Monday afternoon on Dean Drive that left two men injured and drew a large law enforcement response in the heart of Grenada.
Marshall Phillips, 19, of Water Valley was arrested Tuesday, Feb. 17, and charged with two counts of aggravated assault in connection with the incident, Grenada Police Department Chief George Douglas said Wednesday afternoon. Phillips is being held in the Grenada County Jail on a $250,000 bond.

The shooting occurred just before 1 p.m. Monday, when GPD officers and deputies from the Grenada County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of gunfire in the area. When first responders arrived, they found two adult males injured. MedStat Emergency Medical Service personnel treated the victims at the scene before transporting one of them to the University of Mississippi Medical Center – Grenada for further medical care. The second victim was transported to the hospital by private vehicle.
One of the injured was later flown by helicopter from UMMC – Grenada to another medical facility. The conditions of both victims remain unknown.
Investigators documented and recovered numerous bullets and shell casings scattered along Dean Drive as they processed the scene. Dozens of bystanders gathered nearby as officers secured the perimeter, collected evidence and interviewed witnesses.
Witnesses told police they believed the shooting may have stemmed from a fight earlier in the day. Authorities said that the investigation remains ongoing.
