Last Thursday, some personnel at the University of Mississippi Medical Center – Grenada were dressed in all green, some even as frogs, as they were leaping in celebration following a major accomplishment.
The hospital was recently awarded a “B,” the second-highest grade possible from the Leapfrog Group, a private organization that publishes hospital safety ratings twice annually based on data available to the public from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and a self-reported hospital survey.
During the day of celebration, the hospital staff flooded the halls of the facility with green balloons, passing the excitement to visitors.
“This is a great accomplishment by our caring, dedicated team members,” UMMC – Grenada Chief of Staff Donna Dipaolo said. “Our employees and their families come here for surgical treatment and I’m grateful that the data has caught up with what we here know.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade assigns letter grades “A” through “F,” focusing on how well hospitals protect patients from preventable errors, accidents, injuries and infections.
Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades are assigned to more than 2,700 general acute-care hospitals across the nation twice annually.
