A shooting just before 1 p.m. Monday on Dean Drive left two people injured and drew a heavy response from multiple law enforcement agencies in the heart of the city.
Officers from the Grenada Police Department and deputies from the Grenada County Sheriff’s Office converged on the scene where they documented and recovered numerous bullets and shell casings scattered in the area. MedStat Emergency Medical Services personnel also responded to the scene. Both victims were taken from the scene for treatment.
One of the injured was later flown by helicopter from the University of Mississippi Medical Center – Grenada to another medical facility. The conditions of both individuals were not immediately known late Monday afternoon.
Numerous bystanders gathered near the scene as officers worked to secure the area, document evidence and interview witnesses.
Authorities said no arrests had been made as of Monday afternoon, and the investigation into the shooting is continuing.
Witnesses said that they believed the shooting stemmed from a fight earlier that day.
