The search for Jimmie “Jay” Lee has made daily headlines since the University of Mississippi student vanished more than two weeks ago.
Last Friday, the Oxford Police Department announced that it, along with the University of Mississippi Police Department, had made an arrest in the case, charging 22-year-old Grenada resident Sheldon Timothy Herrington Jr. with murder in connection with Lee’s disappearance.
“Law enforcement agencies are still working to locate Lee’s body,” the OPD’s press release read. “This is still an ongoing investigation and updates will be given at a later date.”
On Monday, a bond hearing was set for today, Wednesday, July 27, the only new information provided since Herrington’s arrest as of press time Monday afternoon.
Herrington’s arrest came two weeks after Lee was last seen early on July 8, leaving Campus Walk apartments. Lee’s vehicle was towed from Molly Barr Apartments later that afternoon. Since then, OPD and federal investigators have been conducting an extensive search for Lee. Police said law enforcement agencies are still working to locate Lee’s body.
Quickly after news spread that Herrington had been arrested and charged in Lee’s death, his attorney and uncle, Carlos Moore, announced that he had been chosen to represent his nephew, along with another Grenada-area attorney.
“I have been retained to represent Tim Herrington, along with Kevin Horan,” Moore said in a social media statement. “Although he has been charged with a serious crime, he is presumed innocent. We will vigorously defend him and look forward to clearing his good name.”
Moore is the Managing Partner of The Cochran Firm – Mississippi Delta located in Grenada. Moore’s cases focus on criminal defense, civil rights, police brutality, catastrophic personal injury, wrongful death, premises liability, worker’s compensation, social security disability and nursing home negligence.
