The second Swamp Discovery Camp for students eager to find their place in nature is scheduled from 8:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. beginning this Tuesday, June 6 though June 9. The camp is geared for ages 9-12 and will be hosted by The Friends of Chakchiuma Swamp at the Lee Tartt Nature Preserve in Downtown Grenada. The event is sponsored by Garden Clubs of Mississippi.
Students will have an opportunity to examine, explore and consider nature’s stories through a single natural material with various teachers. Fun and fascinating connections will be created through science activities, nature games, creative projects, primitive skills and hands-on wildlife opportunities.
“Our general mission is connecting people with nature,” Executive Director Robin Whitfield said. “Children have so much enthusiasm that we want to have a chance to celebrate nature with them, so that they also understand and can truly connect with nature.”
Activities filled with swamp exploration, creative projects, paddling, wildlife observation and outdoor skills are designed to make meaningful connections with nature. Each day will be a theme based on some natural material. Wood and water will be highlighted as this year’s material.
