The Grenada County Board of Supervisors recently held a Public Hearing for the readjusting of Holcomb Volunteer Fire Department Station No. 2’s Fire Protection Grading District.
The proposed boundaries of the district were described as follows:
Beginning at W ¼ corner of S3, T21N R3E of Grenada County. Proceed 1 mile East to E ¼ corner of S3, T21N R3E. Thence SOUTH ½ mile to NW corner of S9, T21N R3E. Thence 1 ½ miles EAST to N ¼ corner of S10, T21N R3E. Thence ½ mile South to center of S10, T21N R3E. Thence ¾ mile East to SE corner of W ½ NW ¼ of S11, T21N R3E. Thence 1 ½ miles North to NE corner of W ½ NW ¼ of S2, T21N R3E. Thence 2 ¾ miles East to NE corner of S6, T21N R4E. Thence ½ mile North to W ¼ corner of S32, T22N R4E. Thence 1 mile East to E ¼ corner of S32, T22N R4E. Thence 1 mile South to E ¼ corner of SS, T21N R4E. Thence l mile West to E ¼ corner of S6, T21N R4E. Thence 2 ½ miles South to SE corner of S18, T21N R4E. Thence 5 ½ miles West to S ¼ corner of S17, T21N R3E. Thence 2 miles North to N ¼ corner of S8, T21N R3E. Thence ½ mile West to SW corner of S3, T21N R3E. Thence ½ North to W ¼ corner S3, T21N R3E to point of Beginning.
The total area of the proposed district is approximately 14.875 square miles and will reach 9,520 acres.
During the Aug. 15, BOS meeting all board members were present, and the floor was opened to the public to ask board members questions regarding the new boundaries.
With there being no one who wished to speak, Michael Lott made a motion to close the hearing, seconded by Chad Gray and unanimously approved by the Board.
Any contiguous area situated within any county of the state, and not being situated within the corporate boundaries of any existing municipality, may become incorporated as a fire protection grading district solely for the purpose of grading by the Mississippi Rating Bureau for fire protection classification in the manner set forth in the following sections. (Miss. Code § 19-5-215)
Supervisor Darrell Robinson made a motion, seconded by Chad Bridges to incorporate the new Fire Protection Grading District in accordance with MS Code Section 19-5-219.
The Grenada County Fire Coordinator is authorized to prepare and submit the necessary paperwork associated with this process.
Further the Board President, Chancery Clerk and Grenada County Fire Coordinator is authorized to sign any necessary paperwork.
In other business, the Board:
• Approved the real and personal property assessments rolls of Grenada County.
• Approved the recapitulation of assessments of the 2022 real and personal property rolls of Grenada County.
• Approved the authorization of publishing of public notice of Budget/Tax levy hearing.
• OK’d a manual claims of payroll reimbursement to Corrections Management Services for $33,744.28; MACAA-Tishomingo County Extension Claim for Grenada County Agent Conference Fee of $150 and to Stanford Law Firm for attorney fee of $200.
• Approved travel for County Extension Agent to MACAA Conference Sept. 6-9 in Biloxi.
• Approved travel for Deputy Sheriff Ward and Deputy Sheriff Guinn to attend Hostage Negotiations Phase II training held Sept. 12-16, in Hoover, Ala.
• Acknowledged receipt of financial reports for the E-911 Commission.
• Acknowledged receipt of second quarter financial reports from the following departments: Elliott Volunteer Fire Department, Geeslin Corner Volunteer Fire Department, Gore Springs Volunteer Fire Department, Holcomb Volunteer Fire Department and Tie Plant Volunteer Fire Department.
• Approved MEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant for Designation of Agent — State Local Disaster Assistance Agreement.
• Discussed the Clean-up Garbage Dumpster Week. Date to be announced.
• Accepted an Interfund Loan Repayment of $150,000 from Papermill Road Grant Fund to General Fund.
• Accepted an Interfund transfer of $1,550.65 from Papermill Road Grant Fund to General Fund.
• Accepted Grenada County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Donnie Willis’ resignation, effective Aug. 18.
• OK’d payroll changes for two employees with Grenada Central Communications beginning Aug. 16.
• Disposed of a television in Justice Court.
• Approved to fix District 5 resident Ziffie Davis broken windshield caused by downed tree.
• Approved to fix a broken pipeline for Delta Wings caused by District 5 county workers.
