Secondary students in the Grenada School District will have a shortened Friday schedule beginning this week to allow more work flexibility for teachers.
According to District officials, students at Grenada High and Grenada Middle School will be released (1:05) on each Friday and buses will run immediately afterwards. This will not affect students at each of the elementary schools.
The decision was made following the heavy workload on the teaching staff due to COVID-19.
“Many of the teachers at the high school and middle school are teaching all three methods (traditional, hybrid and virtual schedules),” Superintendent Dr. David Daigneault said.
Daigneault said the increased workload includes the demands of a new learning management system (Canvas), contacting parents on a more regular basis, building assessments and instructional materials in Canvas, and processing attendance.
“This extra time will help our staff provide our students with a higher quality education,” Daigneault said.
Important Dates for Elementary Students
According to Daigneault, all elementary students (Kindergarten through fifth grade) will attend virtually on Nov. 11 and Dec. 18.
“This will allow our teachers additional time to prepare for a quality education for every child,” he said.
According to Daigneault, grab and go lunches will be provided at the high school for all school district’s elementary and virtual students on these two days from 10:30 a.m. until11:30 a.m.
“The elementary principals will be sending out a notice about the work required for our elementary students,” Daigneault concluded. “The pre-school calendar will remain unchanged. Pre-K students will attend as previously scheduled.”
