Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2022, at Living Faith Miracle Temple C.O.G.I.C., pastored by Jerry Lamar Reed Sr., in Grenada for Mrs. Sallie Bell Crawford Bowman, 64, of Grenada, who died on Friday, May 13, in Jackson. Burial followed in the Mt. Vernon Family Plot in Winona. Dr. Superintendent Joe Mack Bankhead officiated.
Sallie Bell Crawford Bowman was welcomed into the family of the late Archie Crawford and Flora Bell Yates Crawford on Nov. 21, 1957. She was the 11th child and the fifth daughter.
Sallie was a vibrant and happy child. Her position in the family did not define her position in life. Born and educated through the eighth-grade in Kilmichael, she completed her high school education in Wyandanch, N.Y., and lived in the home of her sister, Mary, and with her husband, Perry Shields Sr.
Sallie had a heart to help others and lived a Godly life of service. She obtained her license as a practical nurse in high school and continued her nursing studies at Farmingdale University. She grew up in a Christian home and community, attending Wilmount Baptist Church with her parents. After moving to New York, she received Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior. She joined and served at Little Mission now Revelation Church of God In Christ under Pastor Bishop Bryant.
Life’s journey compelled Missionary Sallie to return to her birth home and to be there for her mother and family. She also continued to serve in the Church of God In Christ. This journey also placed her in the life of her husband, Elder Reasie Bowman Jr., whom she was married to for almost 40 years. Together, the couple raised two beautiful children, Moses Crawford and Edna Johnson.
In the early 80s, she continued her nursing career at Grandview Health Care Center now Grenada Living Center. She became very close friends with two of her colleagues, Mrs. Joe Ann Georgia and Mrs. Julia Williams, and continued their friendships until her transition. Sallie departed a life of labor to transition to eternal spiritual rest on May 13, 2022.
Her sister-in-law, Jeannelle Crawford of New Albany; one brother, Archie Lee Crawford Jr., and three sisters, Mary Lou Crawford, Lena Mae Forest and Mary Lee shields, preceded Sallie in death.
Sallie leaves to cherish her memories, her wonderful husband, Elder Reasie Bowman Jr.; son, Moses M. Crawford of Grenada; daughter, Edna J. Johnson of Raleigh/Durham, N.C.; aunt, Ella Mae Ward; siblings, Amy (Rudolf) Hobbs and Mary Ann Foy, all of Winona, Ollie L. Crawford/Al-Mu’min A. Jabbar, Elijah (Martha) Crawford and Abraham (Vergie Hill) Crawford, all of Wyandanch, N.Y., Dorothy Jean (Edgar) Hinds of Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y., Ethel Crawford Dempsey of Jamaica, N.Y.; Isaiah (Constance) Crawford of Rock Island, Ill., Jacob (Bobby) Crawford of Dickinson, Texas, and Willie Stean Crawford of Port Jefferson Station, N.Y., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that will greatly miss her.
Pallbearers were Marktavis Herrod, Marvin Perry, Marcus Collins, Herby Hawkins, Marcus Smith, Johnny Skinner and Raylin Ellis. Family and friends served as flower bearers.
Roberts and Son Mortuary in Winona was in charge of arrangements.
