Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 12, 2021, at Hurley Chapel for Ronald Henderson Smith Sr., 69, of Grenada, who died on Sunday, June 6, in Memphis, Tenn., with his loving and devoted wife by his side. Burial followed in Haven Rest Cemetery. The Rev. Ladonnal Wiley Curry of St. Andrew A.M.E. Church of Memphis, Tenn., was the eulogist.
Ronald Henderson Smith was born on Aug. 16, 1951, in Grenada. He spent his childhood in the vibrant city of Chicago, Ill. After graduation, he returned to Grenada. He began working at Memphis Hardwood and Flooring Company, Cook’s and The Compress. He was a true “Mr. Gadget.” He loved to test out new innovative gadgets on the market. In his spare time, he loved listening to the blues in his man cave or watching the “Perry Mason,” “Charlie Chan” and “Sherlock Holmes” series.
Ronald’s memory will live forever in the hearts of his family.
His father, Frank Crowder; stepfather, Leonard Johnson; sister, Cassandra Crowder; one daughter, Shalanda Nunley and one son, Ronald Henderson Smith Jr., preceded Ronald in death.
Survivors include, his loving mother, Annie Lee Johnson; his devoted wife of 29 years, Margaret Louise McAfee Smith; brother, Rodney Crowder; one daughter, Rhonda Hendricks; two sons, Randall Henderson Smith and Jamaal Watson; 10 grandchildren, Ja’quarius Watson, Tonijah McCaskill, Paislei Watson, Jamaal Watson Jr., Damica Hendricks, Donzell Hendricks, Dominique Hendricks, Demitrius Hendricks, D’Angela Hendricks and Donald Hendricks; three great grandchildren, Destiny Hendricks, Delvin Hendricks and Elijah Hendricks; a special cousin, Elaine Long, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and great friends.
Clark-Williams Funeral Home of Grenada was in charge of arrangements.
