Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2022, in the Mortimer National Funeral Home Chapel in Grenada for Robert Larry Floyd, 77, who passed from this world on Tuesday, July 26, in Oxford. Burial followed in Red Hill Cemetery near Duck Hill. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service on Tuesday, Aug. 2, at Mortimer National Funeral Home.
Larry was born on Dec. 15, 1944, in Grenada, the son of Robert L. and Jewel Ricks Floyd. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed gardening and landscape painting. He was the president of his high school class and band captain. He was a member of Water Valley Church of Christ.
Larry worked as a radio disc jockey in Belzoni, while in high school. He began his career as a radio announcer and later joined Weyerhaeuser Corporation. He was a highly-successful salesman in the lumber industry until he retired. He traveled extensively with Weyerhaeuser and Plywood Tropics across the United States as well as trips to Indonesia and Russia. Larry lived in various places across the country including, Tennessee, Virginia, Texas, Oregon and Mississippi. He had an uncanny ability to talk with anyone and make them feel special.
His parents preceded Larry in death.
Survivors include, his sons, Robert Lance Floyd (Lisa) of Alabama, Charles Neil Floyd (Greta) of Washington, Joshua Lee Floyd (Jessica) of Oregon and Jonathan Dean Floyd of Oregon; brother, David Floyd (Cynthia) of Water Valley and six grandchildren.
