“The LORD has watched over your steps through this vast wilderness” (Deuteronomy 2:7). A common question that enters many of our minds is, “does God care about me?” I know this is a personal struggle for many Christians. If you have struggled or are struggling with these thoughts, know that you are not alone.
God cares. That can be hard to believe in those times when we feel alone. Other times we may acknowledge God, but feel like he is very different or far away. This becomes even more difficult when life is filled with pain and heartache. God seems either distant or unloving, and we can’t understand why he doesn’t step in and make things better.
Deuteronomy 2:7 reminds us of his personal care for us. The LORD has watched over “your” steps. your choices, your opportunities, your options, your failures, and your missteps, he has watched over them all. Often, we assume he isn’t helping just because things are not going our way. We failed to think that it may be even worse without him or is it something even bigger than our current challenges could happen.
He created us for himself. He died for our sins. His word liberates us by teaching us what is good for us and that God knows best for us. He works in ways we often don’t realize or understand. The question for us is whether we will trust Him with our current circumstances or whether we will decide to do it alone. He promises that if we draw near to him, he will come closer to us. He does not promise that only good will happen or life will be free from pain. He promises to be with us and sustain in the trouble.
