We spend countless hours working, saving and scratching, savings accounts, stock, 401K and many other things.
I know people who save their scrap copper wire, in hopes that the market will go up one day and this will be their retirement. People don’t cut the timber off their land, waiting to do that for a retirement plan.
And there is nothing wrong with planning for the future as a matter of fact its smart, but what about preparing for eternity?
Matthew 6:19-20. “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steel, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moths nor rust doth corrupt and where thieves do not break through and steal.”
Colossians 3:2. “Set your affections on things above, not things on the earth.”
How do you think you will have treasures above if you do not lay them up for yourselves?
So how do we lay up treasures for ourselves in heaven?
First one must be a citizen of the kingdom of Heaven, how do I do that?
Jesus told Peter, “On this rock I will build my church …” and then He told Peter, “I will give you the keys to the Kingdom.” Matthew 16:18-19.
Acts 2:47. We see that the Lord added to the church those who were being saved.
He added these people who obeyed the gospel to His church, His kingdom.
So first in order to lay up treasures for yourself in the kingdom of heaven you must be a part of the kingdom and the church.
