After winning five straight Class AAA, District 1 games, the Kirk Academy Raiders faced longtime power Marshall Academy in a three-game varsity series last week on the baseball diamond.
The Raiders hosted a doubleheader last Tuesday with Marshall winning by scores of 13-0 and 16-2. Marshall completed the sweep with a 12-0 win in Holly Springs last Thursday. With the losses, the Raiders are 7-15overall and 5-6 inside the district as of Monday
Sophomores Rhett Blaylock and Jack Redwine each had a single for Kirk in Game 1. Blaylock was the losing pitcher going 5.0 innings (13 hits, 13 runs, 12 earned runs, 2 walks, 2 strikeouts).
In Game 2, sophomore Jack Redwine had two hits including a double. Eighth-grader Riley Beckham chipped in with a double and a run scored, while classmate Charlie Bailey added a run scored.
Redwine went 3.1 innings (12 hits, 11 runs, 4 earned runs, walk, 3 strikeouts) for the loss. Sophomore Jake Wallace went 2.2 innings (5 hits, 5 unearned runs, walk).
Game 3 was last Thursday in Holly Springs with Marshall Academy winning a 12-0 decision in three innings.
Freshman Logan Carson and sophomores Rhett Blaylock and Tate Summers each finished with one single.
Summers was the losing pitcher going .1 inning (3 hits, 7 runs, 3 walks). Kade Tipton pitched 1.2 innings (3 hits, 5 runs, 4 earned runs, 6 walks, 4 strikeouts).
Kirk returned to action Tuesday at Lee Academy for a District 1 doubleheader. Results were not available as of press time. The teams meet Thursday in Grenada at 4 p.m., with junior varsity followed by the varsity.
