This week, The Grenada Star spotlights Nicole Poe, owner of Barks & Bubbles Dog Grooming.
Q: When and where were you born?
A: I was born in Grenada on Sept. 7, 1996.
Q: Where did you attend school?
A: I graduated from Kirk Academy.
Q: Where all have you lived?
A: I have lived in Grenada my whole life.
Q: Where do you work? Tell us about your job/company.
A: I am the owner of Barks & Bubbles Dog Grooming. We are a full-service dog grooming salon.
Q: What led you to your profession?
A: My love for animals most definitely led me to this profession.
Q: What do you enjoy most about your job?
A: For as long as I can remember, I have wanted to own my own business and work with animals. This profession fell into my hands when I started grooming my own dogs and I realized that I had a true passion for it, and wanted to be able to love and groom everyone else’s pets too.
Q: What was your first job?
A: My first job was as a lifeguard at the Kiwanis Club Pool.
Q: What is your spouse’s name? What does he do for a living?
A: I am married to Jake Poe. He is the Sales Manager at Sunset Chrysler.
Q: Do you have any children?
A: No children, yet.
Q: If you could have anything for your last meal on earth, what would it be?
A: My last meal would have to be chicken Alfredo.
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
A: I would like to go anywhere tropical. I would enjoy any tropical island somewhere.
Q: What hobbies do you like to do in your spare time?
A: In my spare time I am usually spending time with my five dogs.
Q: What do you enjoy about living and working in Grenada?
A: I love working in Grenada because of the hospitality and the support from everyone. I have met so many new people and have grown close with my customers; people that I probably would have never come in contact with had it not been for opening up my own business.
Q: Would you rather read a good book or watch a good movie and why?
A: I am more of a visual person, so I would rather watch a good movie.
Q: What moment in your life has had the biggest impact on you?
A: The most impactful moment of my life would probably be the moment that I decided that I could do whatever I put my mind to. When I finally took the leap to open my own business, I absolutely loved my job, but my mind was constantly tugging at me to get out there and do something for myself. The moment I did it, it was such a moment of relief because I knew without a doubt that this is what I was meant to do in life.
Q: What would be the No. 1 thing on your Bucket List?
A: The No. 1 thing on my bucket list would be to go scuba diving with sea turtles. I have snorkeled with them before, but would love to actually dive with them.
Q: If you could describe your morals, what would they be?
A: Treat others like you would like to be treated. Be patient and kind to yourself. Work hard.
Q: How would you like to be remembered?
A: I would like to be remembered as the person that was always there to help anyone in need.
