This week, The Grenada Star spotlights Brandy Loftin, administrative director at Providence Assisted Living.
Q: When and where were you born?
A: I was born in Grenada on Nov. 15, 1984.
Q: Where did you attend school?
A: I went to Grenada High School.
Q: Where all have you lived?
A: I grew up in Coffeeville and I have also lived in Grenada.
Q: Where do you work? Tell us about your job/company.
A: I work at Providence Assisted Living. I oversee the day-to-day operations of our facility and ensure a safe and caring environment for our residents. Providence offers our residents the highest level of independence where they are free to continue exploring life’s journey on their own terms with just a little help from us.
Q: What led you to your profession?
A: Providence was my job working with the elderly. I did this during nursing school, working as a resident aid. After nursing school, I was offered the nurse position and took it. A few years of working as the nurse, I became nurse manager, then moved to the assistant director. Shortly after that, I was offered the director position where I gladly accepted the offer. I have been with Providence for almost 11 years now.
Q: What do you enjoy most about your job?
A: Our residents. Getting to know them and becoming someone they can trust and depend on. Hearing their life stories and learning from them. So many of our elderly population are forgotten about. One day, we will all be where they are and I want to give them the care they deserve.
Q: What was your first job?
A: My first job was McAlister’s Deli.
Q: Who is the person who has been most influential in your life?
A: My brothers and sister. They know what it’s like to have been brought up the way we were. They know our story. We lift each other up and encourage each other to keep on keeping on and to never give up.
Q: If you could relive one day from your life, what day would you choose?
A: I would say Christmas at my grandmothers from when I was a little girl. That is probably my best memory.
Q: What is your spouse’s name? What does he do for a living?
A: My husband is Michael Loftin, and he owns Loftin Tree Service.
Q: Do you have any children?
A: We have two daughters, Harlee Williams and Lexi Loftin, and one son, Bryce Williams.
Q: If you could have anything for your last meal on earth, what would it be?
A: Tacos!
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
A: Wherever Bigfoot exists.
Q: What hobbies do you like to do in your spare time?
A: I like to hunt, fish and spend time with my family.
Q: What do you enjoy about living and working in Grenada and Grenada County?
A: This is my home.
Q: If you could have lunch with anyone from your life or history, who would it be and why?
A: I would have lunch with George Straight. Why, because he is the King.
Q: Would you rather read a good book or watch a good movie and why?
A: Watch a movie. My household doesn’t allow enough alone time to read a good book.
Q: What moment in your life has had the biggest impact on you?
A: My children’s baptism. I believe our one goal as parents is to get our children into heaven.
Q: What would be the No. 1 thing on your Bucket List?
A: Besides getting my children into heaven, I would like to go on an elk hunt.
Q: If you could describe your morals in three words, what would they be?
A: Kindness. Hard working. Respectful.
Q: How would you like to be remembered?
A: I would like to be remembered as a mother whose kids and family were her life.
