As of Wednesday June 8, Statewide Election Management System (SEMS) reported a total of 9,546 absentee ballots requested and 8,362 absentee ballots received for the June 7 Primary Election.
In Grenada County, Election Day precincts reporting totaled 13 of 13. Grenada County has 14,493 total registered voters. Ballots cast within the county for Congressional District-Democrat and Republican United States House of Representatives were a total of 1,843 or 12 percent.
Democrat nominees Jerry Kerner totaled 36 votes or 2.78 percent and Bennie G. Thompson had 1,261 votes or 97.22 percent. Republican nominees Michael Carson totaled 132 votes at 24.26 percent. Ronald Eller had 183 votes or 33.64 percent. Brian Flowers had 202 votes at 37.13 percent and Stanford Johnson had 27 or 4.96 percent.
According to Grenada County Circuit Clerk Michelle Redditt-Garcia, Circuit Clerk offices were to have receipt of all mail-in absentee ballots by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14. Absentee ballots returned by mail must have been postmarked on or before Election Day in order to count. Final election results will be posted today June 18, 2022.
Voters can receive a free Mississippi Voter ID card by filling out an application at their local Circuit Clerk’s Office.
