Early evening severe thunderstorms with strong straight line winds rattled Grenada County Sunday, leaving downed trees and power lines in its wake.
Throughout most of Memorial Day, officials spent countless hours assessing the damage, clearing debris and attempting to get as many residents without electricity back online as scattered heavy rains continued. However, there is still a lot of work left to be done.
According to FindEnergy, as of 9:01 p.m. on Monday, May 26, there are 1,349 homes and businesses without power in Grenada County. This represents 11.8 percent of the 11,428 customers FindEnergy tracks in the county.
Grenada County currently has the third most power outages of any state and the third highest ratio of customers out of any county in Mississippi. Of the two utilities FindEnergy tracks in Grenada County, Entergy Mississippi has the most customers out, with 1,253 without power. The utility with the largest percentage of customers out is Tallahatchie Valley Electric, at 13.46 percent of customers without power.
