A woman was injured Sunday night after being struck by a vehicle while walking along the roadway near a busy Grenada intersection.
Just after 9 p.m., officers with the Grenada Police Department responded to an emergency dispatch call reporting that a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle near the intersection of Hwy. 8 and Hwy. 51 near Quick Care Pharmacy. Upon arrival, two GPD officers discovered a black female lying in the grassy median near the edge of Hwy. 8 just off the ingress lane that leads traffic east on Hwy. 8.
According to officials on the scene, the woman claimed that she was struck by a "large pickup truck" and knocked down. Visible blood could be seen coming from a head injury.
Paramedics with MedStat Emergency Medical Services arrived on the scene to treat the woman, who was able to walk to the awaiting ambulance. She was transported to the University of Mississippi Medical Center-Grenada with non-life threatening injuries.
The pickup truck that allegedly struck the woman stopped in the Walgreens parking lot where additional officers collected information.
Deputies with the Grenada County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene.
The incident remains under investigation.
