Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenda for Ms. Edna Vera Smith Sessums Corder, 90, of Grenada, who died on Friday, May 21. Burial will follow in Grenada Memorial Garden. The Rev. Ron Sessums is officiating. Family and friends will gather one hour prior to the service on Tuesday, May 25, at McKibben and Guinn.
Ms. Corder was born on May 13, 1931, in Tie Plant to John Oliver Smith Sr. and Vera Frances Boland Smith. She was a lifelong resident of Mississippi except for a short six-month period when she resided in Roseburg, Ore. She was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church where she was a proud member of the church choir.
Her parents; her first husband, Fred Merrell Sessums Jr.; second husband, Charles Preston Corder; two sons, Michael Glenn Sessums Sr. and Terry Lynn Sessums, and her siblings, Eloise Smith Lee, John Oliver Smith Jr., James Smith and Billy Smith, preceded Ms. Corder in death.
Survivors include, her daughter, Sherron Ann Hester; five sons, Fred Merrell Sessums III, Ronald Earl Sessums, Alan “Tater” Sessums, Richard Todd Sessums and William Preston Corder and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Chance Jackson, Zane Jackson, Preston Lee, Bailey Marshall, Cole Sessums and J.J. Storey.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shriner’s Children’s Hospitals.
