Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday Sept. 1, 2024, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Mrs. Sarah Louise Hayward Grantham, 86, of Grenada, who died on Friday, Aug. 30, at her residence. Burial followed in Mars Hill Cemetery outside of Duck Hill where multiple generations of her family are buried. The Rev. Eugene Heimbach officiated. The family received friends from noon until service time on Sunday, Sept. 1, at the funeral home.
Sarah was born on Feb. 2, 1938, in Duck Hill, the daughter of the late Douglas and the late Mabel Bennett Hayward. She was a master seamstress whose talents fill many homes in the area. She worked for many years at R&S Cleaners and prior to that at Pennaco Hosiery as well as several other places around town. She loved her children, grandchildren and her great grandson, Kaleb, who held a special place in her heart.
Sarah loved working in her yard as that was what she considered her stress relief even though she would suffer with sunburn afterwards due to her pale skin. She also loved to cook, but most especially bake. If you were ever special enough to enjoy her candies she only made during special occasions, consider yourself very lucky as they always went fast.
In addition to her parents, her brothers, Howard Hayward of Holcomb and Manly Hayward of Grenada, preceded Sarah in death.
Survivors include, her daughters, Linda Grantham of Grenada and Lisa Grantham of Ridgeland; her grandsons, Haley Adams and Cody Adams of Grenada; her great grandsons, Cayden Vaughn of Arkansas and Kaleb Adams and Braylen Neal, both of Grenada; her brothers, Larry Hayward and William (Tammy) Hayward, all of Duck Hill and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would also like to offer a very special thank you to Sarah’s devoted sitter, Christina Whitten.
Haley Adams, Cody Adams, Sonny Hayward (honorary), Clay Hayward, Marc Hayward, David Hayward, Cooper Hayward and Jeremy Hayward served as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to Emmanuel Baptist Church in Grenada or Webster Animal Shelter in Madison.
