Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Philadelphia Baptist Church for Mrs. Ruby Helen Marter Beck, 90, of Cadaretta, who died on Monday, May 6, in Tupelo. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The Rev. Martin Jacks and Bro. Trae Miller officiated.
Mrs. Beck was born on Dec. 18, 1933, in Webster County, the daughter of the late A.J. and the late Willie Mae Clanton Marter. She was the definition of a dedicated homemaker and took great pride in making her house a home. She was a skilled seamstress as well as a wonderful cook. She also enjoyed working in her yard and vegetable garden. Mrs. Beck was a devoted member of Philadelphia Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, her husband of 72 years, Richard Murrell Beck; infant daughter, Carolyn Elaine Beck; grandson, Zach Windham, and two sisters, Mattie Mae Middleton and Earlene Marter, preceded Mrs. Beck in death.
Survivors include, her son, Richard “Ricky” Beck (Carol) of the Cadaretta Community; daughter, Melissa Middleton (Dalton) of Tupelo; one sister, Pat Toney (Jerry) of Grenada; brother, Rufus Marter (Faye) of Bellefontaine, and two granddaughters, Elizabeth Gray (Zach) and Ella Middleton, all of Tupelo.
Ray Britt, Reb Byrne, Kenton McGee, Woody McGee, Kevin Middleton, Steve Middleton, David Toney and Jerry Lynn Toney honored Mrs. Beck by serving as pallbearers and carried her to rest in the Philadelphia Baptist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Philadelphia Baptist Church Building Fund, 4835 Cadaretta Rd., Gore Springs, MS 38929; The Sanctuary Hospice House, 5159 W. Main St., Tupelo, MS 38803 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
