Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 11, 2024, in Coffeeville Cemetery to celebrate the life of Ronald Edward Defer, 65, who died on Wednesday, Nov. 6, in Oxford. The Rev. Hal Clark officiated.
Known as Bubba to his family and friends, he was born on Nov. 2, 1959, in Water Valley, the son of the late Lloyd and the late Shirley Defer. He was part of the Water Valley business community as the owner of Defer’s Auto, which he operated for more than 40 years. Bubba loved the outdoors, spending much of his leisure time hunting and fishing. He and his son, Skyler, could often be found participating in bass tournaments throughout North Mississippi.
In addition to his parents, his father- and mother-in-law, Earl and Nancy McClellan, preceded Bubba in death.
Survivors include, his wife, Stephanie Defer; his son, Skyler Defer, and his two brothers, Michael Defer and Tommy Defer, and their families.
Randy Simmons, Les Darby, Michael Redwine, Billy Jones, Taylor Trusty and Jimmy Yancy honored Bubba by serving as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Junior Auxiliary of Water Valley.
