Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2024, at Sparta Methodist Church for Mrs. Nancy Sue Neely Heath, 91, of Holcomb, who died on Monday, Nov. 4, at her residence. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The Rev. David McGowin and the Rev. Janie Mortimer officiated. The family received friends one hour prior to the service on Wednesday, Nov. 13, at the church.
Nancy was born on Feb. 6, 1933, in Carroll County, the daughter of the late Leland Gray Sr. and the late Fannie Sue Saban Neely. She worked for a number of years as a medical lab technician, but was happiest working as a devoted homemaker. An excellent cook, Nancy found joy in cooking for her loved ones and was an excellent seamstress. Most of all, she was a loving, caring mother to her family.
Nancy will be lovingly remembered for her devotion and sacrificial service to all of us. She was a member of the Sparta Methodist Church and was formerly a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church in Columbus.
In addition to her parents, her husband, Newton Earl Heath, and her brother, Leland Gray Neely Jr., preceded Nancy in death.
Survivors include, her daughters, Susan Heath McGilvra (Paul) of Holcomb and Ann Heath Hester (Stacy) of Brandon; four granddaughters, Jennifer Anderson, Lauren Garriga, Neely Kelley and Emily Chamblee; nine great grandchildren, Olivia Ball, Carson Ball, Grayson Garriga, Anna Peyton Garriga, Pierce Garriga, Caroline Kelley, Collins Kelley, Mills Chamblee and Mary Leighton Chamblee; brother-in-law, Bruce Heath of Jefferson and a host of nieces and nephews.
Jamie Anderson, Adam Chamblee, Brandon Garriga, Holland Heath, Cody Kelley, Lee Neely and Larry Tate honored Nancy by serving as pallbearers and carried her to rest in Sparta Cemetery.
The family extends its greatest appreciation to Adoration Home Health and Hospice, Michelle Johnson, Liz Blanch and Martha Mister for their loving care during the last days of Nancy’s life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Sparta Cemetery Fund or to Samaritan’s Purse.
