Funeral services were held at noon on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2024, in the Oliver Funeral Home chapel in Winona for Mr. John Edward Perkins, 83, of Water Valley, who died on Monday, Nov. 4, in Oxford. Masonic rights concluded the service in the chapel. Burial followed in Poplar Creek Nations Cemetery in Kilmichael. The Rev. Randy Bridges officiated. Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday, Nov. 9, at Oliver Funeral Home.
Mr. Perkins was born on May 24, 1941, the son of the late Ed Ray and the late Evelyn Tucker Perkins. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Water Valley and was a United States veteran of the Vietnam War.
In addition to his parents, his sister, Martha P. Smith, preceded Mr. Perkins in death.
Survivors include, his wife, Ruth Taylor Perkins of Water Valley; daughter, Jessica Denise Ware (Vince) of Tunica; sister, Betty Davis (Al) of Water Valley; brother, Van Perkins (Linda) of Brandon and two grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the Poplar Creek Nations Cemetery Fund, 488 Hwy. 413, Kilmichael, MS 39747.
