Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2024, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Mr. Richard Scott Dykes, 55, of Grenada, who died on Saturday, Nov. 9, at his residence. Burial followed in Oddfellows Cemetery in Grenada. Bro. Ken Salley and the Rev. Daniel Herring officiated. The family received friends from noon until service time on Tuesday, Nov. 12, at McKibben and Guinn.
Scott was born on July 2, 1969, in Grenada, the son of Tommy and Bobbye Allday Dykes. He was a 1987 graduate of Grenada High School and earned both a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in geology from Mississippi State University, and received the accreditation of (ABD) PhD in earth and atmospheric sciences at MSU.
Scott bled maroon and white, and loved cheering on the Bulldogs at every opportunity. He worked in the petroleum business for many years at Halliburton and also used his expertise to teach in the Geology Department at Mississippi State. Scott honorably served in the Mississippi Army National Guard and was a member of First Methodist Church in Grenada.
His father, Tommy Dykes, preceded Scott in death.
Survivors include, his wife, Hope Heath Dykes of Grenada; mother, Bobbye Dykes of Grenada; daughters, Christi Smith (Rob) of Caledonia and Amber Bailey (Cody) of Grenada; brother, Kyle Dykes (Ashley) of Altamonte Springs, Fla.; grandchildren, Brylee Smith, Douglas Bailey and Michael Bailey; mother-in-law, Joyce Buice, and lifelong friends, Mike Lawrence, David Philley, Brad Pender and Steve Hardin.
Cody Bailey, Steve Hardin, Chris Jarreau, Mike Lawrence, Kevin McCurdy, Brad Pender, David Philley and Robert Smith honored Scott by serving as pallbearers and carried him to rest in Oddfellows Cemetery.
