The family received friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 5, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service.
Rachel was born on March 2, 1949, in Grenada, the daughter of the late James Glen Corder and the late Audrey Shelton Corder. She worked for many years at McQuay, now Modine. After retiring from McQuay, Rachel spent most of her time caring for and spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She had a talent and passion for creating beautiful floral arrangements for her friends and family as well as memorial flowers for her parents, sisters and other beloved family members who have passed away.
Rachel truly enjoyed spending time with her daughters canning vegetables grown in her husband’s garden each summer. She also treasured her rose garden, built and planted for her by her husband, James, and the company of her faithful companion, Marlee.
Rachel’s love for our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was evident in her life. She will be remembered for her heart for helping others and did so until she was no longer able. She was a wonderful prayer warrior. She was a member of Enon Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, her sisters, Elaine Ponder, Charlotte Easley and Glennis Patton, preceded Rachel in death.
Those left to treasure her memory include, the love of her life, her husband of 58 years, James E. Woods; daughters, Marsha Engle of Grenada, Tracy McKelroy (Tim) of Rosebloom and Misty Fayard (Sam) of Carroll County; son, Jason Woods (Melanie) of Carroll County; two brothers, Johnny Corder (Lori) of Georgia and Chris Corder of Grenada; 11 grandchildren, Trinity Moorhead (Jonathan), Kaylee McKelroy, Lainee McKelroy, Blair McKelroy, Harley Crenshaw (William), Rye Fayard, Anna-Lynn Fayard, Samantha Fayard, Christian Melton, Presley Woods (Michael Bankston) and Audrey Woods and six great grandchildren, Nash Crenshaw, Ryker Crenshaw, Easton Crenshaw, Trent Crenshaw, Hallie Fayard and Mattie Lynn Sturgis.
Michael Bankston, Michael Easley, Shelton Easley, Shanon Patton, Robby Roberts and William Strider will honor Rachel by serving as pallbearers and carry her to rest in Calvary Cemetery. William Crenshaw, Rye Fayard, Steve Marter and Ken Sanford will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family extends its greatest appreciation to Legacy Hospice and also to the wonderful staff at AMG Specialty Hospital in Batesville – which she considered family – for their loving care in Rachel’s final months.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
