Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2024, at First Methodist Church in Grenada for Owen Timothy Whitehurst, 76, of Grenada, who died on Monday, July 29, at his residence. Burial followed in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation was held from 1 p.m. until service time at the church.
Tim was born on Dec. 15, 1947. He was an active member of First Methodist Church in Grenada. He was a community servant all of his life. Tim began his career as a firefighter for Grenada Fire Department where he worked his way up the ranks to eventually becoming chief. He retired from the Fire Department with more than 20 years serving the City of Grenada.
Tim was an avid outdoorsman. He loved golfing, hunting and fishing with his good friends. He was also a man of many talents. He could build anything you needed and loved doing it, as long as you did it “his way.” He loved his family and friends and would do anything to help someone in need.
His parents, Obia and Earnestine Whitehurst, and one brother, Jim Whitehurst, preceded Tim in death.
Survivors include, his wife, Linda Whitehurst; his daughter, Amy Killebrew (Casey); son, Chris Whitehurst (Shea); one brother, Jerry Whitehurst (Shirley); his sweet grandchildren, Bryce Stegall, Jaidyn Laird, Kallen Laird and Addison Moore (Allyson); his great grandchildren, Avery and Carter, who he adored, and all of his nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were City of Grenada Fire Chief Hollis W. Bloodworth, Deputy Chief Blaine Adams, Deputy Chief Robert Dunn, Deputy Chief Wesley Halford, Captain Sonny Horne and Lieutenant Cull Dees. Honorary pallbearers were Mr. Bryce Stegall, Mr. Casey Killebrew, Mr. JR Reece, Mr. Gene Grass, Mr. Jim Liles and Mr. Fred Johnston.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to First Methodist Church in Grenada, 161 S. Line St., Grenada, MS 38901.
