Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Sept. 2, 2024, in the Oliver Funeral Home Chapel in Winona for Margarita “Margie” Cordero Vaughn, 86, of Winona, who died on Saturday, Aug. 31, in Flowood. Burial followed in New Hope Methodist Church Cemetery in Winona. The Rev. Ryan Vaughn and the Rev. Frank Vaughn officiated. Visitation was held from 10 a.m. until service time on Monday, Sept. 2, at Oliver Funeral Home.
Margarita was born on July 30, 1938, in Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico. She was married to the late Grady Franklin “Frankie” Vaughn Sr. of Winona for 52 years until his death in 2008.
Margarita was a loving and dedicated wife and mother, and passionate servant of the Lord in the churches she served through the years. Also, she served as interpreter for Baptist Medical and Dental Mission International working in Nicaragua, Honduras and Mexico where she helped to lead many to the Lord. She worked at the McGregor Factory in Winona as a seamstress. She was an entrepreneur as well. She owned Susie’s Ceramics and Burger Basket of Winona, and Panchito’s of Greenwood. She was a member of Winona Welcome Wagon.
Her parents, two brothers and one sister, preceded Margarita in death.
Survivors include, three brothers and three sisters, Juan (Theresa) Cordero, Manuel Cordero, Roberto (Delia) Cordero, Rosario (Chayo) Cordero, Irma Cordero and Evelia Cordero; four daughters and one son, Kathy (Lee) Daughtry of Grenada, Frank (Gina) Vaughn Jr. of Winona, Tammy Vaughn of Winona, Bettye (Jeff) James of Winona and Susan “Susie” Welch of Hattiesburg; 15 grandchildren, Kari Gehrett-Hargett, Richard “Richie” Gehrett III, Howard “Howie” Gehrett Sr., Frank Vaughn III, Cole Vaughn, Ryan Vaughn, Heather Vaughn Mims, Hunter Vaughn, Michael Cordero Vaughn, Morgan Taylor Vaughn, Jeff James Jr., Chad James, Matthew James, Carly Welch Holland and the late Corey Welch; 25 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers were Mrs. Vaughn’s Grandsons.
The family would like to thank the ICU staff at River Oaks Hospital in Flowood. Their compassion and care went above and beyond. They would also like to thank Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital for their care and coordination of transport so quickly to River Oaks. Dr. Joseph Robers of Grenada for his many years of care. Dianne Rosa, at home caretaker and dear friend for her patience, and loving care, and Shirley Dance and Moore Memorial Methodist Church where she was a member for providing a meal for the family.
