Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 3, 2024, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Mr. Manly Hayward, 89, of Grenada, who died on Tuesday, April 30, at his residence. Burial followed in Mars Hill Cemetery near Duck Hill. Dr. Brent Barker, the Rev. Eugene Heimbach and the Rev. J. Barry Worrell officiated. The family received friends from 10 a.m. until service time on Friday, May 3, at McKibben and Guinn.
Manly was born on May 13, 1934, in Duck Hill, the son of the late Douglas and the late Mable Bennett Hayward. He enjoyed a long, successful career as an insurance agent with the Jack Curtis Agency in Tupelo. Manly was not a man afraid of hard work, he also worked diligently on his farm tending to his cows and horses. He honorably served our country in the United States Air Force and was an active and devoted member of Emmanuel Baptist Church for many years. He, along with his wife, Mary Sue, served as Sunday school directors, in the sanctuary choir and also held numerous committee assignments through the years.
In addition to his parents, his wife, Mary Sue Hayward, and one brother, Howard Hayward, preceded Manly in death.
Survivors include, his two daughters, Janet McCaulla (Brad) and Pam Hayward, all of Grenada; son, Sonny Hayward (Marilyn) of Grenada; sister, Sarah Grantham of Grenada; two brothers, Larry Hayward and Buddy Hayward, both of Duck Hill; four grandchildren, Will McCaulla, Stacy Williams, Perry Anne Thimmes and Ragan Hayward; 12 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Ragan Hayward, Jacob Hoop, Mike Hoop, Brad McCaulla, Brady McCaulla, Will McCaulla and John Williams honored Mr. Hayward by serving as pallbearers and carried him to rest in Mars Hill Cemetery.
The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to Mr. Hayward’s caregivers, Charlene Kincade, Ronterrica Ray and Olivia Ray for the exceptional care provided to him. Additionally, a special thanks is extended to Legacy Hospice for their dedication to Mr. Hayward and the entire family.
