Magolia McKinney Fox was born on May 29, 1922, in Sweatman, the daughter to the late John McKinney and the late Versie Lee Hankins McKinney. God called Magolia to her eternal home at 10:51 p.m. on Sunday, June 25, 2023, at her residence surrounded by loved ones.
Magolia professed her faith in Christ at an early age. She joined Pleasant Grove Missionary Baptist Church where she was a choir member and served on the Mother Board. Later, she joined Black Jack Missionary Baptist Church as a Mother of the Church and choir member. She was a faithful servant until her health declined.
In her younger years, Magolia loved horseback riding, squirrel hunting with her father and brother, and playing basketball. She bought her own rifle at the age of 17 for $9. Her hobbies were preserving foods, quilting, writing poems and solving crossword puzzles.
Magolia was educated in the Montgomery County Schools for Coloreds. In her young career, she was a farmer and a cook. Later, she was employed by Penaco Hosiery for 26 years and retired. She continued working as a private caregiver for several years.
On Oct. 19, 1943, she married the late E.R. Fox. To this union, eight children were born.
In addition to her husband, E.R. Fox, and her parents, John and Versie McKinney, her maternal grandparents, Thad and Maggie Hankins; paternal grandparents, Miles and Priscilla McKinney; son, Robert Earl Fox; grandson, Michael Darrell Shelton; brother-in-law/son, John L. Fox; nephew/son, Otis Dale Fox, and siblings, Bella Grace Perkins, Verena McKinney, Oda Ree Willis, Prentiss McKinney, Haven Reeves and Carrie Brady, preceded Magolia in death.
Magolia leaves to cherish her memories seven children, Elnoris (late Cecil), George (Edna), James (Yvonne), Randy (Sarah), Myrtis (Thomas), Jimmy and Paul (Quinton); 19 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; one brother-in-law/son, James W. Fox; one sister-in-law, Willie Louise Fox, and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and loved ones.
