Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Holcomb United Methodist Church for Keith Langley Watson, 64, who resided in Holcomb in the house he built, who died on Tuesday, July 25. Burial followed in Holcomb Cemetery. The Rev. Janie Mortimer and the Rev. Rick Shepherd officiated.
A graduate of Kirk Academy, Mississippi Delta Community College and Mississippi State University, Keith worked as the chief land appraiser for First South Farm Credit until he retired this past January. As a child, Keith was a member of the Boy Scouts of America earning the title of Eagle Scout. He was an avid angler and hunter, involved with all things outdoors from turkey, coon, deer, duck, squirrel and hog hunting to fishing. One of his favorite pastimes, however, was spending hours on horseback.
A member of Holcomb United Methodist Church, Keith gave to those in need, no matter how big or small for family, friend or stranger. To his friends, he was known as “Hawkeye,” “Hawk” for short, and to his children and grandchildren he was fondly known as “Pop.”
His father, Willie Fred Watson, and grandparents, George William and Letha Watson, as well as Jim and Beulah Elliott, preceded Keith in death.
Survivors include, his mother, Barbara Watson; sister, Lydia McCardle (Mike) of Brandon; daughter, Clara Grace Watts (Andrew) of Brandon; son, Elliott Watson (Jessica) of Holcomb and grandchildren, Kelsey, Kylon, Karson, Will, Charly, Finley and Logan.
Pallbearers were Josh Carver, Josh Coffman, Shannon Harris, Greg Hodges, Cliff Holland, Milton Kilgore, Billy Ryals and Glen Taylor. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Carver, Walton Carver, Buddy Gray, Al Hankins, Charlie Holland and Johnny Little.
