A Celebration of Life Service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2024, at Coffeeville Church of Christ for Mr. Jason Levin Purdy, 54, of Coffeeville, who died on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2024, at his residence. Jason was laid to rest in the Purdy family plot in Coffeeville Cemetery. Bro. Don Roberson officiated. The family received friends from noon until service time on Tuesday, Oct. 29, at Coffeeville Church of Christ.
Jason was born on Aug. 22, 1970, in Oxford, the son of Luke Purdy and Ora Mae Collins. He was a graduate of Calhoun Academy and earned a bachelor’s degree in education from Delta State University. He also honorably served in the Mississippi Army National Guard and was deployed to one tour in Iraq while enlisted.
Jason enriched the lives of many children during his teaching career at both Coffeeville and Water Valley schools. In addition to his time in the classroom, he coached girls basketball at Coffeeville and later coached girls and boys basketball at Water Valley High School. Jason was a faithful and devoted member of the Coffeeville Church of Christ and served in numerous capacities through the years.
A professional fisherman, Jason enjoyed fishing and taking his boat out at every opportunity. Jason also enjoyed firing up the grill and spending time with his family. While Jason held many titles through the years, the title he loved most was being “Grumpy” to his first granddaughter, Wrenleigh.
His father-in-law, Jimmy Madison; stepmother, Carolyn Purdy, and one nephew, Jonah Hanks, preceded Jason in death.
Survivors include, his wife, Emily Madison Purdy; two daughters, Madison Purdy Williams (Coby) of Carrollton and Makayla Reese Purdy of Coffeeville; mother, Ora Mae Collins of Water Valley; father, Luke Purdy (Geneva) of Coffeeville; sister, Rubijo Purdy of Water Valley; granddaughter, Wrenleigh Blair Williams of Carrollton; mother-in-law, Thu Madison of Coffeeville; sister-in-law, Amanda Hanks (Eric) of Grenada; niece, Ellie Hanks, and one nephew, Nathan Purdy.
John T. Allen, John Beshears, Paul Burney, Bryan McCullough, Jason McCullough, Jim Peters, Bobby Summers, Scott Tribble and John Turner served as honorary pallbearers.
