Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, 2024, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Mr. James William Stanley Sr., 78, of Grenada, who died on Tuesday, Oct. 22, at his residence. Burial with military honors followed in Grenada Memorial Gardens. Bro. Keith Boseman and Bro. Miles Rainey officiated. The family received friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service.
James was born on Dec. 22, 1945, in Calhoun County, the son of the late William Dexter and the late Susie Mae Brassfield Stanley. He was a retired diesel mechanic and a member of Friendship Baptist Church. He honorably served our country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was proud to be an American soldier. James stayed connected with the men he served with in Vietnam and was an active member of the 556th Light Maintenance Company Direct Support Band of Brothers Association.
Survivors include, his wife, Norma Stanley; two daughters, Debbie Myers (Josh) and Angela Saylors (James), all of West Point; two sons, Anthony Flanders (Brittany) of Grenada and James William Stanley Jr. (Ashlee) of Hamburg, Ark.; 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Greg Amerson, Stephen Burson, Chad Flanders, Josh Myers, Jacob Ware and Jordan Ware honored Mr. Stanley by serving as pallbearers and carried him to rest in Grenada Memorial Gardens. Members of the 556th Light Maintenance Company Direct Support Band of Brothers Association served as honorary pallbearers.
