Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 27, 2022, at Grenada Church of God for Mr. Howard Louis “Bud” Ables, 74, of Grenada, who died on Monday, May 23, at his residence. Burial followed in Grenada Memorial Garden. The Rev. James McElroy officiated. The family received friends from noon until service time on Friday, May 27, at the church.
Bud was born on Nov. 9, 1947, in McCool, the son of Harold Purvis and Inez Moore Ables. He was a retired farmer and a devoted member of Grenada Church of God. He was one of the strongest men that his family and friends knew. He could walk into a room and instantly have everyone’s attention. With his pressed and starched blue jeans, bright polo shirt and the best smelling cologne you’d ever smell, when he hugged you, the smell lingered for hours and it was wonderful. A big man with a smile that could shame the sun and hands that would intimidate most.
Most importantly a man of God to the fullest extent, Bud led a Christ-centered life, never wavering. One of the best examples of a man of God that we all knew. He led each one of us in our own way and loved each one of us more than we could imagine. He was a devoted husband and father who held a tight ship. For that we all admired and respected him. He gave to anyone who needed it. There wasn’t much he couldn’t fix when it came to mechanics and not many fish he couldn’t catch when it came to his favorite pastime. He was loved by so many and will be remembered always.
His parents; one sister, Margaret Ann Power, and a son-in-law, Tommy Jones, preceded Bud in death.
Survivors include, his wife of 55 years, Marie Ables; his daughters, Deloris Marie Ables Flowers (Gary) of Christopher, Ill., and Donna Jo Ables Jones of Cascilla; his son, Howard Stephen Ables (Kim) of Grenada; two sisters, Margie Williams of Union and Janie Turner of Jefferson; two brothers, Harold Ables of Gore Springs and Charlie Ables of Conehatta; eight grandchildren, Eric Vickers (Megan), Mutt Terry (Callie), Chasity Busby (Brandon), Kaylee Ellison (William), Gina Rutland (Hunter), Danielle Flowers (Keith), Jennifer Williams (Michael) and Jessica Spooner (Matthew); 16 great grandchildren, Kerstin Vickers, Stella Vickers, Bubba Busby, Hayden Terry, Taylor Terry, Miranda Rutland, Amy Rae Rutland, Madison Ellison, Chloe Ellison, Dillan Alderman, Dalton Alderman, Landry Spooner, Gavin Kroeger, Rivers Kroeger, Avi Walker and Audric Walker.
