Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 10, 2022, at Pine Grove Baptist Church for Mr. George G. Harrison, 85, of Coffeeville, who died on Monday, June 6, at his residence. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Family and friends gathered one hour prior to the service on Friday, June 10, at the church.
George was born on Nov. 7, 1936, the son of Ray and Emma Sue Harrison. He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was a former board member of the Department of Mental Health for the State of Mississippi for 21 years where he served as president for three terms. He was a former member of the Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities and on the State Plan Advisory Council.
George was very active while a member of the Friends Organization of North Mississippi Regional Center in Oxford. There, he served as president and vice president through the years. He honorably served our country in the United States Army. He worked at Heatcraft as production superintendent where he retired after 41 years.
His parents; his daughter, LaTania Harrison, and his brother, James Ray Harrison, preceded George in death.
Survivors include, his wife of 63 years, Elsie; son, Andy and his wife, Sandy; sister, Johnnie Sue Rogers (Jesse); foster son, Odie Scott; five grandchildren, Brandi Williams (Kenneth), Brandon Harrison (Kandice), Jessica Frazier (Lance), Nikki McDonald (Geoff) and Jacob Brown and 13 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Jacob Brown, Brandon Harrison, Brad Kilgore, Hoyt Logan, Charles Parker and Barry Rounsaville.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the North Mississippi Regional Center in Oxford or the charity of the donor’s choice.
