Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Grenada for George “Buster” Henson, 76, of Grenada, beloved father, entrepreneur and community pillar, who died peacefully on Saturday, July 13, surrounded by his loving family and friends in Oxford. Burial followed at 1:15 p.m. in Forest Hill Cemetery South in Memphis, Tenn. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service on Thursday, July 18, at Emmanuel Baptist Church.
George was born on Oct. 9, 1947, the son of George W. Henson and Mae McArthur. He grew up in Charleston before moving to Grenada.
For more than three decades, George was the proud owner and heart of Catfish Corner in Grenada where he served his community with warmth and dedication. Known as a jack of all trades, George approached life with a spirit of generosity and a willingness to help others in any way he could. Whether it was fixing a neighbor’s car or lending a hand to someone in need, George’s kindness and expertise left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him.
George will be deeply missed by his devoted spouse of 27 years, Nancy Henson; his loving children, Renea Jacks (Dillion), David Henson (Cricket) and Shane Scallions (Mary); his cherished grandchildren, Hunter Rutland (Gina), Jordan Duke (Robert), Logan Henson (Haley), Kendall, Aubree, Olivia and Brelynn; his sisters, Frances Coleman and Martha Lewis; his brother, Gene Hill (Dottie); extended family members and a wide circle of friends who admired his integrity and compassion.
George’s legacy of kindness, resilience and community spirit will continue to inspire all who knew him. His memory will live on in the countless lives he touched and the enduring impact he made on his beloved Grenada community.
