Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2022, at the Mortimer National Funeral Home Chapel in Grenada for Emma Lena Gentry Brown, 83, of Grenada, who died on Monday, March 28, at her residence surrounded by her family. Burial will follow in Sparta Cemetery. Bro. Jerry McNeer is officiating. Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until service time on Thursday, March 31, at Mortimer National Funeral Home.
Emma was born on Oct. 29, 1938, in Charleston, the daughter of the late Willie and Lucy Gentry. She was a beloved mother, grandmother and friend to many people. She loved gardening, singing and preparing meals for her family. She was employed by Pennaco Hosiery Mill as a seamstress until her retirement. She attended Grenada Church of God and Hillside Baptist Church.
In addition to her parents, her husband, William Floyd Brown, and one son, William Donald “Donnie” Brown, preceded Emma in death.
Survivors include, her daughter, Gail Burkhalter (Ray) of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; one son, Jerry Brown (Michelle) of Grenada; six grandchildren, Nick Smith (April), Allen Brown (Jennifer), Shane Brown (Jessica), Emily Brown, Lexie Baker (Will) and Jerlyn Brown; eight great grandchildren, Cade Smith, Gage Brown, Rylee Smith, Laura Brown, Addie Brown, Ashley Brown, Grant Brown and Avery Brown; one sister, Alice Clolinger (Billy John), and a host of nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Mike Mabry, Mike Aldridge, Will Baker, Cade Smith, Ray Burkhalter and Tony Banford. Honorary pallbearers will be Nick Smith, Randy Smith, Avery Brown, Allen Brown and Shane Brown.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, Va., 22116-7023 or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105.
