The Annual St. Jude Trike-A-Thon Ride for a Cure was held last Tuesday at Ms. Mary’s Little Learners in Grenada.
For more than 10 years, Ms. Mary’s has hosted a trike-a-thon in honor of Ms. Mary’s granddaughter, Sophie Grace Staten.
“For the last two years, we have not been able to have the event due to COVID-19,” Ruby Conner, director of MMLL, said. “It was so nice to finally be able to get this together again. This is always fun for not only our children, but our parents and teachers as well.”
The 3-year-old and 4-year-old classes would in previous years compete to see which class raised the most money. Now that classes are combined, they set an overall goal of $2,000, and the 17 children that make up the class were able to raise $2,215 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.
Pete the Cat, a popular storybook series character, was used to help the class display its progress with their fundraising efforts.
“We had Pete the Cat ride a skateboard towards the goal,” Conner said. “The kids enjoyed moving Pete on his skateboard every time a donation was made.”
According to Conner, the class will be rewarded with a pizza party for all of the students’ hard work during the fundraiser.
Ms. Mary’s Little Learners is a center based childcare facility with a maximum capacity of 182 children. This childcare center helps with children in the age range of infant care, 1-year-old, 2-year-old, 3-year-old, 4-year-old, and 5-year-old. The provider also participates in a subsidized childcare program.
