I don’t know who said it first, but the Mississippi River is flooding more often, longer, and higher for the same or less rain. There are many reasons for this. But the main one is the US Army Corps of Engineers (Corps). It is in charge of flood control on the lower Mississippi River (below Cairo, Illinois).

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 5, 2025, at Sparta Methodist Church for Mrs. Beatrice Pierce Biddy, 84, of Holcomb, who died on Thursday, Oct. 2, at her residence. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The Rev. Janie Mortimer and the Rev. Rick Shepherd officiated. The family received friends from 1 p.m.
