Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 1, 2022, at Zion Grove Church of God of Prophecy for Mr. Melvin Leo Ross, 75, of Rosebloom, who died on Monday, Aug. 29, at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford. Burial followed in the Ross Family Plot in Smith Cemetery in the Rosebloom Community of Tallahatchie County. The Rev. Fletcher Moorman, the Rev. Jesse Strider and the Rev. William Tribble officiated.
Melvin was born on Aug. 24, 1947, in Rosebloom, the son of the late J.D. and Sarah Tilghman Ross. He was a retired facility manager with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and also owned and operated Ross Construction following his retirement from the Corps. He honorably served our country in the United States Navy and was a member of Rosebloom Church of the Nazarene. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed being a member of the Pearidge Hunting Club for many years.
In addition to his parents; his daughter, Tina Peters; a grandson, Ryan Williams; his twin brother, Alvin Ross; and three more brothers, Douglas Ross, Jimmy Ross and Wesley Ross, preceded Melvin in death.
Survivors include, his wife, Lora Ross; son, David Ross (Karen) of Grenada; stepson, Mark Thompson of Boston, Ma.; sisters, Nancy Bratton of Olive Branch, Sissy Pierce of Pearidge and Ellen Keene of Pearidge; two brothers, Charlie Ross and Steve Ross, both of Pearidge; grandchildren, Maddie Ross, Leslie Kerr and Jay Peters and two great grandchildren, Alyssa Kerr and Caden Kerr.
Pallbearers were Mark Lane, Eddie Moorman, Mike Ross, Jesse Strider, William Strider and Chris Whitten. Honorary pallbearer was Alton Strider.
