Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2023, at McKibben & Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Melody Juaice Little, 66, of Grenada, who died peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 30, at her home surrounded by loved ones. Burial followed in Paul Baptist Church Cemetery in Cascilla.
Melody was born on Jan. 23, 1957, in Grenada, the daughter of the late David and Betty Organ Maxey. She attended Holcomb School and graduated from Strider Academy where she excelled in academics and athletics. She continued her education at Northwest Community College where she completed the Licensed Practical Nurse Program. In 2009, she received her associate degree in nursing from Excelsior College in Albany, N.Y. She enriched the lives of many patients as she worked as a registered nurse. She was very passionate about her nursing and her last job at Grenada Crisis Center was her all-time favorite.
Melody was also a devoted Christian and was a member of Bethel Baptist Church at Oxberry. She enjoyed spending time outdoors and could be found on Sundays playing with her grandsons in the creek. Her grandsons, Jake and Talon, were her world and she made sure everyone knew it.
In addition to her father, her husband, Gary Little; her son, Bob Hood, and her brother, David “Bubba” Maxey, preceded Melody in death.
Survivors include, her mother, Betty Organ Maxey; two grandsons, Jake and Talon Hood; daughter-in-law, Chasity Morrow Hood; three sisters, Amanda Winters (Jessie), Kimberly Thimmes (Patrick) and Susan Mansfield (Mike), all of Grenada; stepson, Mike Kelly; stepdaughter, Myra Hood Pigg; a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly, and her beloved dog, Jiggy.
Pallbearers were Daniel Dorsey, Jimmy Morrow, Patrick Thimmes, Will Thimmes, Freddie Vance and Matt Winters. Honorary pallbearers were Jake Hood, Talon Hood, Mike Mansfield and Jessie Winters.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society.
The family wishes to extend sincere appreciation to Regina Blackmon and Iola Gavin for the exceptional care provided to Melody during her illness.
