Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2025, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Mr. Meek Andrew “Andy” Payne Jr., 84, of Webster County, who died on Monday, Jan. 20, in Tupelo. Burial followed in Moore’s Memorial Cemetery in Carroll County.
Andy was born on March 26, 1940, in Tippo, the son of the late Meek Andrew Sr. and the late Ola Mae Harris Payne. He enjoyed working on the Webster County Road and Maintenance Crew for several years. He was a member of the Winona Church of God. Andy also served in the Mississippi Army National Guard and enjoyed playing golf and fishing.
In addition to his parents, one son, Curtis Andrew Payne; one granddaughter, Jessica Ladner; one sister, Geneva Payne, and four brothers, J.B. Payne, James Payne, Reece Payne and Junior Payne, preceded Andy in death.
Survivors include, his wife of 64 years, Jean Montgomery Payne; one daughter, Helen Ladner (Charles) of Gore Springs; two sons, Chris Payne (Sheila) of Duck Hill and Gerald Payne of Scobey; one sister, Doris Ridenour of Dothan, Ala.; three brothers, Noble Payne of Dothan, Ala., Richard Payne of Picayune and J.L. Payne of Florida; five grandchildren, Jenna Ladner, Makayla Payne, Cory Payne, Ricky Fly and Brooklyn Payne and a great granddaughter, Rylee Miguel.
Andrew Montgomery, David Montgomery, Dwayne Montgomery, Patrick Montgomery, Scott Montgomery and Brad Rayburn honored Andy by serving as pallbearers and carried him to rest in Moore’s Memorial Cemetery.
