Funeral services were held at noon on Saturday, April 16, 2022, at Zion Grove Church of God of Prophecy for Mrs. Mattie Freeman Parker, 90, of Holcomb, who died on Wednesday, April 13, at her residence. Burial followed in Memory Hill Gardens in Memphis, Tenn. The Rev. William Tribble officiated.
Mattie was born on Sept. 17, 1931, in Amite County, the daughter of Smiley Isaiah and Lottie Belle Melton Freeman. She retired after working for more than 30 years at AT&T and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. She was an active member of the Zion Grove Church of Prophecy and enjoyed spending time reading her Bible.
Her parents; her husband, James Parker; one sister, Reta Dawson, and four brothers, Davis Freeman, Smiley Freeman, William Freeman and Afton Freeman, preceded Mattie in death.
Survivors include, one sister, Fran Osborne of Hurt, Va.; two brothers, Dan Freeman (Sandra) of Spring Hill, Tenn., and Jennings Freeman (Patty) of Gloster; three sisters-in-law, Jean Freeman of Grenada, Marie Freeman of Enid and Louise Freeman of Oklahoma and a host of nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
