Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 13, 2022, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Mary Flanagan Buzzarde Brewer, 75, of Mobile, Ala., who died on Friday, Aug. 5, surrounded by family and friends. Burial followed in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The service was performed by dear family member and pastor, Bro. Jerry Baker (Connie), of New Mexico. To accommodate Mary’s many family members and friends, two visitations were held, one in Mobile, Ala., on Thursday, Aug. 11, and another in Grenada on Saturday, Aug. 13.
Mary was born on Nov. 26, 1946, in Vardaman, the daughter of the late Bro. Wiley Haden Flanagan and Mary Alice Herring Flanagan. She worked for 25 years as a telephone operator for South Central Bell and AT&T. After retiring from AT&T, she worked as a teacher’s aide for nearly 10 years in the Grenada School District.
Mary, known by many as “Buzz” or “Nanny,” was an avid Ole Miss fan. It was with great joy she was able to watch her Rebels win the 2022 College World Series. Shouts of “Hotty Toddy” were heard throughout the complex and many calls and text exchanges were made with friends.
In addition to her parents, an infant sister, Nancy Marie Flanagan in 1943; husband, Rex “Baby Love” Brewer in 2000; father, Wiley H. Flanagan in 2001; one daughter, Mary Theresa “Nud” (Vernon-Buzzarde) Ambron in 2012, and mother, Mary Alice “Mammy” Flanagan in 2016, preceded Mary in death.
Survivors include, one daughter, Danette “Net” Woods (Kevin “Kevinator”); son-in-law, Marty “Weezer” Ambron (Caron “Jo Flat”); Fur Baby, Yogi “Yoditz” Brewer; grandchildren, Kylee “Peeps” Gaston (Thomas “Cito”), Kara “Bear Zilla” Carr, Christopher “Kissifer” Ambron and Amie “AmieLou” Neal (Corey); great grandchildren, Paxton “Pac-Man” Boykin, Parker “Peanut” Boykin, Carson “Munk-Munk Cheeks” Gaston, Reese “Reesie Roni” Gaston and Carole “CeeCee” Miller; special caregivers and friends, Miriam “Murm” Kripp (Worsham), Natalie “Sis or Cicero” Patton and Linda “Elsie” Bennett and many other relatives and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be directed to your animal rescue center of choice, which would make Mary’s heart smile.
