Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 16, 2025, at McKibben and Guinn Funeral Service in Grenada for Mrs. Mary Evelyn Long Lamkin, 84, of Grenada, who died on Tuesday, Oct. 14, at her son’s residence. Burial followed in Oddfellows Cemetery. The Rev. J. Barry Worrell and the Rev. Mark Williams officiated.
Mary was born on July 5, 1941, in Calhoun County, the daughter of the late Rev. Woodrow Wilson Long and the late Pansy Ramsey Long. A devoted homemaker, Mary truly embodied the Proverbs 31 woman — always seeking ways to enrich the lives of those around her. She was a faithful member of Emmanuel Baptist Church where she was active in the JOY Sunday school class.
A remarkable cook, Mary found joy in preparing delicious meals for her family and friends. While she was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, her relationship with Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of Christian faith and service, having now entered her heavenly reward.
In addition to her parents, her husband of 59 years, John Lamkin; her daughter, Jennifer Dickson; two sisters, Martha Lucius and Virginia Langford, and one brother, Charles Long, preceded Mary in death.
Survivors include her son, Dwayne Lamkin (Martha) of Grenada; one sister, Lynda Greene (Davis) of Tupelo; two brothers, William Long (Joyce) and Tim Long (Pam) of Mantachie; grandchildren, Tyler Lamkin (Sarah), Hunter Dickson, Emily Gowen (Gray), Jacob Dickson (Sydnie) and Conner Dickson, and one great granddaughter, Rylee Dickson.
Ty Anderson, Conner Dickson, Hunter Dickson, Jacob Dickson, Gray Gowen and Tyler Lamkin honored Mary by serving as pallbearers.
