Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Sunday, March 12, 2023, at Zion Grove Church of God of Prophecy for Mary Elizabeth Bratton Greer, 81, of Scobey, who died on Monday, March 6, in Grenada. Burial followed in the Greer Family Cemetery in Scobey. Family and friends gathered one hour prior to the service on Sunday, March 12, at the church.
Mary was born on July 11, 1941, in Charleston, the daughter of the late Charlie Monroe Bratton and the late Marie Ellett Bratton. She attended Oakland High School and was a standout on the basketball court. She loved the Lord and worshipped Him with fellow believers at Zion Grove Church of God of Prophecy. Mary had resided in Murfreesboro, Tenn.; Dallas, Texas, and El Camino, Calif., but her heart was always in Scobey – her favorite place on earth.
Mary enjoyed her flower garden and working in her vegetable garden. She found great delight in entertaining her family and friends with delicious meals. A retired seamstress, Mary spent many hours through the years making clothing for her five children and quilting with her mom. She will be lovingly remembered as a wonderful, nurturing mother and grandmother. She had an awesome ability to put those in her presence at ease and always looked for the good in everyone. Mary will be missed for many years to come.
In addition to her parents, one son, Hayse Greer; one sister, Bonnie Hudson, and two brothers, Buck Bratton and Curtis Bratton, preceded Mary in death.
Survivors include, her daughters, Ginger Payne (Jay Dodd) of Scobey, Marsha Smith (Mike Ross) of Scobey and Paige Richardson (Thomas) of Franklin, Tenn.; one son, Wayne Greer of Scobey; sister-in-law, Irene Henson of Grenada; 19 grandchildren, April Goolsby, Ethan Greer, Dakota Greer, Morgan Myers, Dallas Greer, Jonathan Coleman, Daniel Coleman, Rachael Downs, Austin Payne, Dallas Dodd, Haley Taylor, Brandon Smith, Kayla Moorman, Cesley Roberts, Katelyn Aldison, Adelyn Richardson, IV Richardson, Greer Richardson and Megan Bishop; 23 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Dakota Greer, Dallas Greer, Ethan Greer, Oliver Greer, Billy James Downs, David Henson, Austin Payne, IV Richardson, Brandon Smith, Ryals Taylor and Ryan Taylor.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be directed in Mary’s name to the Zion Grove COGOP, 2538 Strider Rd., Scobey, MS 38953
